Description
Inspection of the inferior vena cava in PH can demonstrate a dilated vessel due to elevated RA pressures. The IVC remains dilated throughout the cardiac cycle due to the increased right atrial pressure during systole and diastole.2D Image
Colour Doppler demonstrates low velocity bidirectional flow in both the IVC and a hepatic vein. The low velocity and bidirectional flow is secondary to elevated right atrial pressures.
