Ascending Aorta Subcostal View

Maintaining the probe position as described for Atrial Subcostal View, the probe is then angled slightly anterior and rotated slightly clockwise to view the left ventricular outflow tract and the aortic valve. Colour Doppler examination of the outflow tract shows laminar flow. The two blue jets to the left of the ascending aorta are the branch pulmonary arteries.

Colour Doppler

The aorta (Ao) is seen emerging from the LV. The LA is still viewed. The right sided heart structures (RA and RV) are seen to the right of the Ao and LV respectively.
